The CASSINI Hackathon Portugal took place in Coimbra. Participants explored how EU Space data could be used to develop innovative solutions that revitalise European tourism.
Participants used satellite positioning to locate leading tourist sites like the Conimbriga Roman Ruins and the historic University of Coimbra while using augmented reality to highlight unique points of interest.
Participants used geospatial information and satellite positioning technology to deliver detailed information on famous walking sites like the Bussaco Forest, to help safeguard its nature with care while allowing visitors to enjoy its delights for years to come.
Participants used #EUSpace data to help safeguard many of the delights Portugal has to offer while promoting them to a new generation of travellers.

- 6-Hours community engagement networking worth €300
The top 3 teams across all hackathons were awarded an additional 100 hours of expert mentoring.

This edition, the hackathon in Portugal was organised by Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN). IPN is a private non-profit association with a mission to promote innovation and technology transfer, alongside establishing a strong link between scientific and technological environments.
IPN has expertise in several complementary areas. Headquartered in Coimbra, it also runs 6 laboratories, a training department, an innovation department, an incubator programme and more. IPN sits at the forefront of the convergence between innovative start-ups, tech entrepreneurs and space solutions.
