10th CASSINI Hackathon Germany
Over three days in Berlin, our participants hear from our tech mentors and experts from the sports, gaming or tourism sectors. Being one of them, you will explore the data available from Copernicus, EGNOS and Galileo and connect with other professionals to form a multi-skilled team. The challenges? Pick one:
#1 Immersive Gameplay With Space Technology
Can you use Galileo’s positioning data to enhance dynamic gameplay? Use satellite connectivity for real-time updates? Or create your own core gameplay mechanics to integrate real resource management data?
#2 Mapping the Future of Sports in Public Spaces
Using Earth Observation and geospatial data, participants are challenged to identify and map existing sports fields (such as soccer pitches) around the world.
These insights can then be combined with mobility and population data to answer key questions:
- Where are people already engaging in sports outdoors
- Which neighbourhoods or regions show high demand but lack sports infrastructure?
The goal is to use space data to discover new opportunities and locations for public sports areas, empowering communities, cities, and organisations to make data-driven, inclusive decisions.
#3 Redefining Travel With Space Innovation
Travel opens horizons, but it also carries responsibility.
Our hackathon partner, Visit Berlin, provided us with their current challenges:
- Use satellite data to identify and promote nature-friendly, low-conflict water tourism by mapping activity overlaps with sensitive zones. Develop real-time prototypes to track hotspots and guide smarter waterway management.
- Use EU satellite data to detect and classify conflicts between motorised and muscle-powered traffic on Berlin’s waterways, creating data-driven solutions for sustainable, conflict-free tourism.
Who can participate?
- No space tech experience needed: Explore our online training library to learn about the types of space data that you’ll use.
- No team required: You can join as part of a group but if you’re an individual, you’ll be able to connect with other professionals to build a dream team.
- You might not be a coder: Teams need creative and business people too! The Hackathon is open to everyone, at any stage in their career.
Local challenges
The best way to learn is by doing! And Berlin’s startup ecosystem thrives on that principle. With our partnering coding schools at your side, you’ll have access to skilled peers, expert mentors, and the tools you need to build something real.
Prizes
During the Hackathon, teams receive the support they need to develop an idea, research the market, and design a compelling pitch. After three days, the jury selects three winning teams.
Local prizes will include:
- 1st place: 1.000 €
- 2nd place: 500 €
- 3rd place: 300 €
The prizes are kindly sponsored by our partner Visit Berlin.
Additionally:
- A Product Lab with our N3XTCODER AI, data and business experts (with experience in over 150 AI projects) and Mentoring from our Partner 42 Berlin, worth 5000 €
- 5 tickets to re:publica (18.-20. May 2026) valued at 1.795 €
Beyond that, the first-place team will advance to the international stage, competing against winners from nine other hackathon locations for cash prizes of up to 9,000 € (1st: 5,000 €, 2nd: 3,000 €, 3rd: 1,000 €) and six months of mentoring.
Even for teams that don’t win, the Hackathon is an amazing networking opportunity. You’ll meet and co-work on your project with our experts and partners:
